Jewel Ackah, Veteran Ghanaian Highlife musician, has advised young musicians of Ghana that they should be careful while making songs for political parties during the election.
He feels that they should exercise caution in their decisions because it amounts to stepping on people’s toes and they will affect their career as musicians badly.
Moreover, if you do that you may end your music career, and people would stop purchasing your album and would wash out of the system”, he said.
Jewel Ackah stated that he regretted because going into politics and added that he had a very bad experience after the elections.
He said when he prepared a track for the then NDC candidate, Former President John Rawlings, he did not ask for anything in return, since he was afraid; and the former President asked him about how much he wants to be paid, he told that he was completely neglected after he refused the money.
However, NDC does not give any money; you have to work on your own, he waited for their first term, second term, till then Former President Rawlings’ term was over, he disclosed.
Jewel Ackah then declined to do another for the party, but after his previous bad experience till the late President Atta Mills requested him or convinced him to record another song for the NDC party.
After that he recorded the song for the party, and he went through lots of difficulty, but he did not complain, when things were out of control from him, he added.
Meanwhile, he was not paid for the track, now that he is handicapped and cannot take care of himself, the members of NDC party and big shots are taking care of him now..
That is how he learnt a big lesson and would not decide to record, track again, by the way, he loves the NDC
