Seth Terkper, the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning
Seth Terkper, the Finance and Economic Planning Minister said that the government has not put any kind of ban on employment in the public sector.
He insisted that there is a size to be taken into consideration when employing people, therefore the government cannot keep a flexible service.
He explained that employment not only related to the public service, government appreciates the requirement of the employment. There are some other sectors in the public service that need human resources to fill the available positions.
He added that when people resign or retire, they can be replaced, but we cannot increase the public service from 600,000. It will happen when the economy expands.
He is optimistic about the economy to expand rapidly to provide teachers, agriculture extension officers and teachers among others.
Mr. Terkper defused claims In a related development that the government does not treat the public sector workers equally.
Minister of Finance and Economic Planning disclosed this in a joint interview given to the Citi FM’s Bernard Avle and Radio Gold’s Alhassan Suhuyini
Although he appreciated the need of employment but if just keep public service open-ended, people will just keep sitting free with no job and being paid, so government will use unequal amount of taxes revenue to pay wages.
