New patent by Google could make your real-life experiences searchable through a device known as the Google Glass
As stated in a report this thing works something like this: a video is recorded using a device like a wearable (think Google Glass) and it could be made searchable at some other day. After the video is recorded, it is sent to the join up the phone, and then further to the server where it is stored, to form a ‘real-life video library of the users. The video can then further be searched at some later date by means of the online database.
Fundamentally a user can then give an inquiry like, “My videos from the trip to Paris,” to the wearable device and it will give him the related results. On how the search will really work out, the patent states that the technique may also include transferring a request of the user to the computer system of the server to start a search of real-world experiences or the history, and getting results related to the query that include data indicative of the media data in the history of real-world experiences.
Quite interesting is the fact that the patent also notes that at somewhat popular locations like a park or a historical monument, the device which is capturing media could be turned on automatically. A common location, as said by the patent, would be the ones at which some other users have captured media data too. The patent also notes that if a user is sometimes determined to be within a popular place, the preference manager might automatically turn on the media capture without involvement of a user. In another example, preferences manager, may be set in a way to periodically or continuously capture media data for a definite interval of time. According to the patent, searching for your ‘real-life’ experiences might become the next step where Google Search could be directed. But we should also keep this in mind that given that this is a patent, it will take some while for this to become real, if it does. Given that smartphones have become omnipresent and many of us spend quite a large amount of time recording every moment, a searchable index of videos does not seem so astonishing. Though it has been stated that ‘real-life’ experiences will be searchable, on the other hand, privacy will also be a concern for many users.
