Tax awareness seminar organized at Yendi
The Ghana revenue Authority has arranged a seminar for tax education with collaboration of its Tax office in Yendi.
The seminar was arranged to educate more than 100 stakeholders from Yendi Metropolis and other closer areas of the Northern Region.
Topics including VAT Act 870, sanctions under Act 870 and 592, record keeping, filing of returns, withholding taxes and registration & de-registration were thoroughly guided and discussed.
Mr Alfred Annang Mensah, who is Yendi Small Tax Office’s Manager told that it is their vision to educate about issues by enabling environment and creating a friendly and a full of awareness atmosphere.
Tax awareness events and seminars have enabled them to meet their stakeholders and provided an opportunity to initiate productive discussions on issues regarding tax, he added.
Senior Revenue Officer, Mr Emmanuel Owusu Sekyere advised that one who is engaged in any tax related activity should register such seminars and also urged such people to register themselves by filling registration form.
Mr Victor Jiagge who is a Tax and Revenue officer said in context with Internal Revenue Act 2000 (Act 592) each person with a taxable income is liable to pay tax on his income and returns and he should file returns and self assessments to submit them to the Ghana Revenue Authority.
He also told that complying with the Internal Revenue Act 2000 (Act 592), traders are also required to file their returns to Commissioner-General in lieu of their employees against their income on a specific date.
He also warned that where one defaults or fails to file a return on any income, fines and penalties shall be charged to both employers and employees.
