The Food and Agriculture Ministry of the Parliament appealed the Finance Ministry to pay for damages caused by bird flu to poultry farmers.

On Thursday, Gabriel Essilfie told the Parliamentarians in the house that agriculture Ministry has no funds to fulfill the cost of the damage.
The conformation of the poultry disease bird flu was made last month and spread across Ghana killing more than 33,000 birds since the period.
The Media correspondent to the Parliament, Elton John Brobbey stated that the Committee Chairman informed that more than eleven poultry farms were seriously affected causing huge loss to the owners.
At least GH¢800,000 were lost by only two poultry farms, he explained.
He also said that the Ministry of agriculture has not prepared any relief budget for the affected people and now begging the Finance Ministry for help.
Dr. Hanna Bissiw who is the Deputy Agriculture Minister and handles the Livestock matters confirmed that their department has been bank corrupted and not in the position to give any compensation to anyone.
She thrown all the responsibility on the farmers for the loss by saying that when they discovered any first case of bird flu in their farm, they should stop all activities at least for six months or until an examination was conducted for the conformation of the disease. They should wait for some time before returning to their businesses.
In the Parliament she requested an immediate involvement by Finance Ministry to fill the loss of the affected farmers.
She mentioned the Standing Order 170 according to which the Finance Ministry can release funds to meet any emergency needs.
Anyhow, The Parliament Speaker Mr. Edward Doe Adjaho ordered the Committee of Food and Agriculture to present a report in a week about financial needs caused by the virus.
