In Ghana, a discussion will be held today in a church meeting over proposed Ebola vaccination trials, between The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) and Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Yesterday, giving interview to media; this news is revealed by an authentic government personal that the final decision is up to the FDA and the meeting is not for the endorsement of the trials.
He said that concluded decision has to be made yet after responding the apprehensions of the Ghanaians about media reports of Ebola vaccine. Now the responsibility is on FDA.
The approval of scheduled trials in some parts of the country will be given after testing the vaccine for its efficiency and side effects, he said.
In a brief prominent retort to the newspaper, FDA has made it clear to all Ghanaians that the vaccine is not yet approved.
Ebola is basically a contagious and deadly disease. Major symptoms are fever and severe internal bleeding.it spreads through contact with infected body fluids by a virus whose normal host species is unknown. The Vaccine is basically the weak bacteria of that particular disease to strengthen the immunity system of the body.
According to the reports, some particular societies are still pending for Ebola vaccination trials and the volunteers assisted the campaign will be awarded by cellular phones along with GH¢200 each. But this is strictly opposed by Ghanaians and some non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
As the Coalition for Ghana’s Independence Now (CGIN) has said that the situation is very disappointing. The government should not allow anyone to use its people for an Ebola vaccine trial.
Specified by the media reports, the University of Health and Allied Sciences is leading the project and the expected area for trial is in Hohoe in the Volta Region. FDA has proofs that they are testing the vaccine without the approval of trials.
The project representatives have already convinced the students of the Hohoe Midwifery Training School to volunteer for them.
The CGIN has claimed in a statement that unfortunately Ebola has not just remained a disease but some cruel people have made it a well-organized business. They create a market for selling their solutions by creating artificial problem. And we are warning the people of Ghana that there is no way by which they can experiment without spreading Ebola virus throughout the country.
Since now there is not any case of Ebola in Ghana, but it would be a gamble to infect any healthy person with the Ebola vaccine to check it for further research, CGIN said. So it’s our duty to warn people and expose this planned human experimentation of Ebola in Ghana as act of crime and a total abuse of human rights of the people of the country. We are not over informing but doing this in just our national interest.
Moreover CGIN said the enemies of the country want to allow the human trials which will surly results in the breakout of Ebola in Ghana. And then they wait for a large number of Ghanaians to be affected by the disease and killed before they release the vaccine and the government will be compelled to buy the vaccine at any cost. This could be the greatest national security threat.
More than 5,000 people in Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea, Senegal and Nigeria has died because of Ebola.
