The national distributor of energy, Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is blaming the media on inciting the public anger and hatred against the ECG in dumsor problem.
ECG is of the view that the Ghanaian media is stroking public anger with false information and sensationalization of news on the worse energy crises (dumsor) in Ghana.
While talking to media the public relations director of Ashanti region, Erasmus Kyere-Baidoo told that we admit the role of media in the development of the country but our news media is using this issue negatively to get popularity among the public of Ghana by blaming ECG unjustifiably.
He stated that “Media gone wrong many times. We know the role of media in the development of any nation and constitution also highlights its role but it is observed that some media outlets working on the agenda to prove ECG the responsible of everything and unfriendly to its consumers.
“Everyone is blaming and pin pointing the ECG throughout in dumsor issue as only ECG is responsible and cause of every problem. Many media houses are portraying ECG as the bad boy of the family” he further said.
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has been released a new schedule of the load shedding for residential and commercial consumers.
Ghana has been facing load shedding of 440 Megawatts during off-peak time and 650 Megawatts in peak time since the energy aroused.
The Ministry of Power has mentioned the useless hydrology in the hydro-electric power stations along with the breakdown of thermal plants. Dr. Kwabena Donkor, the Power Minister of Ghana has also pointed out the shortage of gas from West Africa Gas Pipeline (WAGPco) as a cause of energy crises in Ghana, due to which many power and other thermal plants are suffering.
Government is going to involve in two emergency power barges which will help out by providing 450 megawatts to reduce the energy shortfall. The first barge is expected to be installed in April.
