
Speaker of parliament, Doe Adjaho who has been working as acting president of Ghana, but speaker refused to sworn-in as constitution lay it mandatory for acting president of Ghana.
According to the constitution of Ghana, in the absence of President and his Vice, the speaker of parliament will hold the office by taking oath.
President Mahama is currently on his tour to Burkina Faso for finding a consensual agreement among all stakeholders which further lead to a constitutional transition of political power.
Mr Kwesi Amissah-Arthur the vice president also on official tour to India. The absence of both makes the speaker an automatic choice to hold the office as acting president.
But the speaker of parliament, Doe Adjaho refused to take the oath, even the chief justice of Ghana was there in the parliament for the oath ceremony on Wednesday.
According to the reporters who were in the parliament at time, the president directed the parliament that speaker of the parliament act as president because the vice is also on tour to India.
The whole parliament and Chief Justice Georgina Wood was expecting him to take the oath of office but unexpectedly he comes into the chamber and announces that he has not sworn-in.
He justified that he had taken the oath in September 2013 which made him president then so it is not necessary to take oath now because the previous one is still in force.
After the short meeting between the leadership of house and chief justice it was decided that the position of speaker would hold.
The all members of parliament supported this act of the speaker even the minority side also supported speaker’s decision.
Therefore the chief justice left the parliament without performing her duty for which she came.
