
President of Ghana, John Mahama with President of Nigeria and Senegal demanded Burkina Faso’s army ruler to handover the rule to a civilian ruler. They are also in search of a capable person to appoint as a temporary ruler until elections are held.
This demand came after the Presidents of Ghana, Nigeria and Senegal have arrived in Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso and held meeting with Lt Col. Isaac Zida,Burkina Faso’s Interim Ruler nominated by the army.
Lt. Col. Isaac Yacouba Zida nominated as the transitional leader by Burkina Faso’s army after the resignation of President Blaise Compaore, who held the office for 27 years.
President Blaise Compaore resigned due to the rising opposition after his effort to seek the office for another term. This resignation has created a power vacuum in the country in which three people tried to hold the office in past week.
President Mahama visited Burkina Faso as a Chairman of ECOWAS after the report about the disrupt situation of Burkina Faso, proposed by the Joint Mission of ECOWAS, African Union (AU) and United Nations (UN). This mission was working in Burkina Faso to study the situation of political unrest in the country from 31 October and laid its findings to Mahama on last Sunday.

The African union (AU) gave the two weeks deadline to interim ruler of Burkina Faso to handover the power or face authority to civilian leader. As it has promised to safeguard the peace of the nation the ECOWAS will not accept or favor any takeover through unconstitutional means, ECOWAS announced.
President Mahama also accepted the recommendations proposed by the Joint Mission and endorsed the vision of ECOWAS of peaceful restoration of constitutional order.
Presidential spokesperson Ben Dotse Malor disclosed while talking to media that president Mahama also met with the representatives of United Nations (UN), ECOWAS and African Union (AU).

He also added that President Mahama still holding meetings with all the stakeholders of the situation, including civil society, religious groups, military and political parties to come up with a consensual agreement which lead to a smooth and constitutional transition of power.
Malor further stated that President Mahama and his team is working to find a constitutional way of transition, because that way we can guarantee a safe, secure and law abiding future for the people of Burkina Faso.
In this regard the Zephirin Diabre, leader of the political opposition stated that we admire the support and solidarity of the regional leaders who help us in finding a consensual formula for transition of power.
