Apple is best known for its smartphone flagship, iPhone, and its latest generation of iPhone 6 came with blast and piled up numerous records for the tech giant. Nevertheless, iPhone can’t be declared best if we look around the tech sphere for smartphone. BlackBerry Passport is such a device that could be considered when challenging iPhone’s latest flagship. Despite Apple and Samsung dominates the market in the US but BlackBerry proved with Passport it can’t be overlooked.
Both smartphones were released in September and run on unique operating systems. Unlike high end smartphones both are non-Android. Let’s navigate around and find out which device edge other in a certain field.
Design and Display:
BlackBerry has weird design for someone using traditional smartphone, unlike iPhone, Galaxy and HTC it is wider and features full QWERT keyboard at the lower end of the screen, which is smoother and appealing, coming with stainless steel design. With BlackBerry Passport you get IPS LCD screen of 4.5 inches and strong pixels, 1440×1440 with 453ppi. It measures 128 x 90.3 x 9.3 mm and little bulky with 194 g.
On the other hand iPhone 6 has also smooth design, measures 138.1 x 67 x 6.9 mm and only 129 g. Apple claimed to make the design highly desirable with thinner and curve display. It supports 750 x 1,334 pixels with the pixel density 326 ppi. As far as overall design concerns iPhone 6 rules out Passport without any controversy.
BlackBerry is available with two variants Black and White, while iPhone 6 has Silver, Gold and Space Gray.
Performance and Storage:
BlackBerry Passport has ability to compete with high end devices when talking about speed. It features a Snapdragon 801 chipset with 2.26 GHz Krait 400 quad-core processor and Adreno 330 graphics. The internal storage is 32 GB which can be extended to 128GB with the support of microSD card.
The iPhone 6 is powered by Apple’s new chipset, A8 which is more efficient compare to Snapdragon and scores higher in the performance. iPhone 6 comes with three storage variants, 16 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB but there is no external storage.
Though BlackBerry isn’t well-known for its camera specs but Passport breaks the tradition, it features 13 MP rear camera alongwith autofocus and full HD video recording. There is also a 2 MP front camera with HD video recording.
Apple’s iPhone 6 has 8 MP camera, able to capture images with amazing color accuracy, phase detection and full HD video recording whereas it has 1.2 MP front end camera.
Both devices have non-removable batteries; BlackBerry Passport has huge battery of 3,450 mAh capacity while iPhone 6 has only 1810 mAh capacity.
BlackBerry Passport is relatively cheap in terms of price, the unlocked Passport costs you $599 whereas unlocked iPhone 6 starts at $649, for 16GB.
iPhone 6 launched with latest operating systems of Apple, iOS 8 as well as it features fingerprint authentication to access. NFC is the new feature added in iPhone 6 which is using to make mobile payments via Apple Pay Service.
The Passport came with BlackBerry 10.3 OS which allow users to run Android apps from Amazon appstore. BlackBerry is also a competitor of iOS 8 Siri with Assistance feature.
