Ghanaian Princesses beat Canada
The host of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup began their campaign in a worst possible manner after losing 1-0 to Ghanaian Princesses in Toronto’s National Stadium.
Sherifatu Sumaila alone strikes was enough to guide the Black Princesses to a 1-0 victory over the host, while they have been left with a little margin for error in their remaining Group A matches against Finland and 2006 champions Korea DPR.
Canadian defender was at their best by saving some important saves, but can’t stop Sumaila breaking the deadlock on 22 minutes. The goal scorer crosses several defenders before finally scoring the wonderful goal.
Canada best chance of the day came just before the half break when Emma Fletcher struck Victoria Agyei’s post with an effort from the left.
The host was totally looking out of form in front of a 14,834 strong crowd, although they got momentum in the second half and pressed hard for the equalizer but fail to do so.
Ghana got another wonderful chance in the hour mark when Nichelle Prince crosses the Canadian defense but her shot was saved.
Canada tried their level best to equalize in the last ten minutes with Ashley Campbell pushing a header wide but fails to find the net.
