Ghanaian soccer fans which claimed asylum in Brazil have granted permission to stay for initial one year in the country. The West Africans, which were in the hosting country to catch World Cup 2014 action, refused to return Ghana and made applications to seek asylum.
The reasons behind submitting applications for asylum are yet unclear, although some speculations suggest religion conflicts were cited for the purpose. Black Stars were ruled out from World Cup race in the very first stage.
Ghana embassy in Brazil is expected to made investigations on the claim, as there are no serious religious issues in the West African nation.
However, till the investigations are done football supporters have been permitted to stay and work in Brazil for one year, some of the asylum seekers have made their ways to neighbouring countries like Argentina and Ecuador, while some are choosing way to reach in prosper North American nations.
One of the asylum seeker told sources,
“We didn’t tell Brazilian authorities that there was conflict in Ghana and for that they should grant us asylum,”
“Each and every one of us came here with his own reason which is definitely not a conflict situation.
He continued that some of the supporters have started working in industries and construction sector while “some have left into neighbouring Argentina, Ecuador and the likes. Others are also traveling by road to the USA”.
