John Mahama, the President of Ghana has demanded from the Black Stars to work harder for their nation and make sure that when they returned from Brazil, they will be World Champions.
The President was speaking at a dinner organized by the state to give Black Stars an official farewell as they are ready for their third successive campaign in Brazil.
Ghana Black Stars is being drawn into the toughest group alongside, Portugal, United States of America and Germany in Group G.
The President believes that the Black Stars who have been training hard can create history by becoming the first African nation to be crowned as World Champions.
He is speaking at the function that is being held at the State Banquet Hall on Thursday night, “Ghanaians and the football fans are expecting something, that will make them proud.”
Our prayers are with you, so that Ghana can lift the World Cup for the first time in our history.
Everything is possible, a little more effort in the training, and respect your opponents but don’t fear them.
Later, the Black Stars jersey is autographed by the President to keep it for auctioned to raise funds to boost the Sports Ministry’s projects for the 2014 World Cup.
The highest bid is being offered by the IPMC, pledging GHS75,000 while Kwame Osei (Despite) followed with a pledge of GHS60,000.
Other companies such as Special Ice, Consar Constructions and the like followed with GHS50,000 pledges.
The Black Stars will play a local selected side in an exhibition match on Friday before travelling to the Netherlands for the final training camp.
Black Stars will also take on Netherlands in an international friendly on May 31 before moving further to the United States of America where they will play another friendly against Asian giants, South Korea.
