Paul Afoko, the newly elected Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) reveals that he is not interested in re-election at the end of his term in the year 2018.
He is talking about the Dwaso Nsem morning show on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 about Adom FM’s where he said; the main purpose of the newly elected chairman is to make new strategies that will lead NPP into power in the 2016 general elections.
He said, I promise to all that the NPP will come into power in 2016, but after that I will not seek re-election.
As everyone knows that no previous chairman of the NPP has gone for two terms likes, Peter Ala Adjetey, Harona Esseku, Peter Mac Manu and Odoi Sykes or take an example of past chairman Jake Obetsebi Lamptey who lost in such a bid.
Mr. Afoko at a press conference a day earlier said, I will apply all those strategies that will benefit NPP and boost a chance to party in the upcoming elections.
He also reminds the flagbearer contenders and their supporters to well behave during the election campaign, after reminding them about the nominations which is yet to be announced.
In another strategy related to party, Mr. Afoko and his team members are ready to meet the former administrators at the party headquarters today for a formal handover.
Otiko Afisa Djaba, the Women’s Organiser is the only member of the old executive who was retained in the NPP’s national delegate’s conference which to be held in Tamale.
Out of the total 5,400 votes cast at the NPP’s 16th Extraordinary Delegate’s Conference, Mr. Afoko got 2,034 votes.
Steven Ntim was his closest rivals who polled 1503, followed by the Fred Oware, the former First Vice-Chairman who polled 1,135.
Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, the Compulsory National Chairman polled only 66.
Moctar Bamba has also been expelled by the Mr. John Boadu for the National Organizer position.
The other new national executive members that will take their positions over the party includes,
Freddie Blay — 1st National Vice-Chairman
Sammy Crabbe – 2nd National Vice-Chairman
F.F Antoh – 3rd National Vice-Chairman
Otiko Djaba – National Women’s Organiser
Sammy Awuku – National Youth Organiser
Kwabena Abankwa Yeboah – National Treasurer.
