John Mahama, the President of Ghana has already demanded EU for a 64 million Euros multi-donor budget support to Ghana, which is still not cleared due to some financial policy issues. He has requested during a discussion held in Brussels with Jose Manuel Barroso, the President of the European Commission, where both agreed to maintain a deep relation between Ghana and the European Union. In response to Ghanaian President Statement request, Mr. Barosso said we will continue to support relationship with Ghana, and an effort will be made to support the country’s short-term fiscal challenges. He also congratulated and sends his good wishes after President Mahama won his election as the Chair of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) by mentioning that it is a good sign for West Africa and for the sub-region’s relations with the EU. During the meeting, both leaders discussed the Economic Partnership Agreement being negotiated between the EU and ECOWAS, with President Mahama requested the European Commission to show flexibility so that there will be no any disturbance between Ghana or West Africa and Europe, in the interim. Both, President John Mahama and Mr. Barroso had a discussion on the current situation in Mali and EU support in consolidating peace in that country. They further discussed on upcoming elections in Guinea-Bissau.
