A Fire started early Friday morning at the Takoradi Port destroying some metal containers that contained oil waste from the oil rigs functioning in the Jubilee Oilfield.
Captain James Owusu Koranteng, the Director of Takoradi Port, in an interview said that the fire has not caused any heavy damage to the facility.
He added, the fire was being noticed around at 0420 hours and the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Unit stationed got to the scene at 0427 and by 0600hours everything was under control.
Captain Koranteng explained the reasons for the cause of the fire by adding, it is the result of spontaneous ignition of heat that had gathered in the oil waste containers at the cabin.
He told the members of the GNFS work very hard to clear the containers from the facility to a safer location.
When GNA got to the scene, everything was well under control as the GNFS members already prevent people from entering the danger area with red and white tape.
