Surprising news from the ongoing Presidential Election Petition hearing where Afari Gyan admitted petitioners claim of over voting.
The Chairman of the Electoral Comision of Ghana, Dr Kwadwo Afari Gyan ended the day of his examination lead by counsel for the petitioners, Philip Addison where Afari Gyan accepted the petitioner’s definition of over voting which he had earlier denied in his examination in chief.
Counsel Philip Addison ended his cross examination on the day presented Dr. Afari Gyan with a pink sheet from Temporary Booth Jinpenhi Polling Station (Code K030405), Where over voting could be easily seen as the total ballots casted were 67 but the total number of registered voters at the polling station mentioned in the pink sheet was 21.
Counsel Philip Addison pointed out to Dr. Afari Gyan that anyone can see the situation of over voting per the EC Boss classical definition. Dr. Afari Gyan made statement that that was so but quickly pointed out that that’s why he preferred referring to voters register to cross check which he was allowed.
After Cross Checking, Dr Afari Gyan stated boldly that the register which was tended on Tuesday had 71 voters instead of 21 which had been indicated on polling station.
That was the point where Counsel Philip Addison suggested Dr. Afari Gyan that over voting occurred as the total number of ballots was more than the total number of ballots issued, surprisingly Dr. Afari Gyan agreed to this statement of Counsel Philip Addison, denying his statements and posture during his examination in chief.
The Pink Sheet of the temporary polling station booth Jinpenhi showed that 66 ballots were issued and 67 ballots were found in the ballot box which was counted as a part of the results which declared John Mahama winner of 2012 Election.
