The stars of The Amazing Spider-Man were in Leicester Square last night for the London premiere of the latest superhero movie reboot.
However the leading couple, Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield walked the red carpet separately – despite rumours that they have become an item in real life as well as on film.
But 28-year-old Garfield didn’t hold back with his praise for Stone, 23, when talking to journalists at the event.
The actor, who grew up in Britain, was quoted by the Daily Telegraph as saying: “She is fantastic. We all know and love her and she is just so fluid and present and generous and loving. She’s very special.”
And on his role as the famous superhero, he commented: “I want to be Spider-Man but this is as close as I’ll ever get to feeling like I am, unfortunately. I’m very happy to be working towards actually being Spider-Man.”
American actress Stone was equally complimentary about Garfield, saying: “We were allowed to improvise a lot. It was wonderful. It was very, very special and we learned a lot.”
And director Marc Webb described their romance as the “beating heart” of the film – which won’t help to dispel rumours of a real-life relationship.
The movie opens in cinemas in the UK on 3 July.
