Kofi Annan: Ghanaians Must Extol Mills

The former UN Secretary-General, Dr. Kofi Annan has stated even with deep sorrow that people share at the death of Ghana’s ex-President Mills, it will linger, but when the tears have dried, ‘we must all give thanks for his time.”

According to him, Ghanaians must extol the late President John Evans Atta Mills, because his reign transformed the country making it a model of investment possibilities.

The former UN Secretary-General also recognized the fact that late president Mills has “cemented political stability” and, while presiding over Ghana’s first production of oil, he accelerated economic growth for the benefit of all in this fine West African country.

Kofi Annan said, he is proud as a Ghanaian to see the smooth transfer of power to Vice-President John Dramani Mahama, who takes the reins until Ghana’s elections at the end of the year, adding that,

This orderly transition is good for Ghana and Ghanaians. And President Mills believed in Ghana and Ghanaians. Losing and winning in several elections, he believed in political process too.

The former UN Secretary General also averred that, the above qualities exhibited by late president Mills, earned him respect from all around the world, as the plaudits and condolences from other world leaders show.
President Mills died at the 37 Military Hospital on July 24 after a short ailment. His vice-president John Mahama was immediately sworn in as President, in accordance with the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana.
