Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has revealed that iron ore deposits of worth more than 1.7 billion tonnes have been found at Sheini exploration site in Northern Region. He further formed that the deposits volume estimation will hit to 3 billion as the exploration exercise will end.
According to Majority Leader in Parliament, the latest discovered iron deposits can consider the biggest deposits of the country. In Western Region, mine of Oppong Manso have the deposits of 360 million tonnes of iron whereas Upper West iron mine possesses 60 million tons of deposits. He made these remarks while revealing the natural resource map of the country.
The exploration team has already assessed this area earlier and the iron ore deposits spread to Togo. Once reassessment of the area is done, then we will confirm the presence of huge volumes of mineral in the area. These deposits will help in the development of the iron and steel industry. The bill to initiate Iron and Steel Development Corporation has placed on President table for approval.
The natural resource map of Ghana has designed to have all information regarding water bodies, mineral resources, and forests. Human-made infrastructure like roads, railways and development projects also mentioned in the map. According to Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the map will help planners to explore areas of development. It will also help in proper utilization of natural resources in Ghana, Professor Stephen Adei from NDPC told.
