No fatalities have been reported after an air strike hit the Mitiga International Airport in the capital of Libya where rival groups are approaching to take control of Tripoli. Earlier, 25 people lost their lives while 80 received injuries including government fighters during a fight near the Libyan capital.
Gen Haftar’s forces are ready for Tripoli battle to take over Libya.
A commander from the east, named as General Khalifa Haftar, is approaching towards the capital with the intentions to take over the UN-backed government. Libyan Prime Minister Fayez al-Serraj has strongly condemned Gen. Haftar for plotting a coup.
Moreover, the government has slack control over the airport for being a home of a powerful militia. Media has criticized Libyan National Army (LNA) for airport strike. However, there is no confirmation about army involvement in the air strike.
Gen Haftar’s forces revealed that at least 19 fighters have died. Though two-hour truce observed on Sunday in order to evacuate the casualties but fight remained continue.
In a statement, US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo has expressed US deep concerns over the situation. He also demanded to stop fight in Tripoli immediately and requested for talks.
Since Muammar Gaddafi demise in 2011, Libya is experiencing violence, crisis, political instability and power struggles. The deteriorated situation has compelled powerful countries to call their personnel back from the country.
