A mass shooting incident at a bar in Thousand Oaks, California has left at least 12 people dead while a dozen more injured.
Almost 200 people were congregated in California bar when mass shooting occurred.
The shooting incident took place at around 23:20 local time when almost 200 people were hosting a university student night inside the Borderline Bar and Grill.
Investigators have also found the dead body of an unidentified suspect inside. The motive behind the attack is still not clear.
President Trump called the shooting as ‘terrible’ and admired the valor of the police officers involved.
The people congregated for college country music night when the suspect, dressed in black, entered and opened fire. According to initial reports, the suspect perhaps used smoke grenades and a semi-automatic handgun to conduct the attack.
A victim told that: “We just dropped to the ground, we heard a lot of screaming. My friend is the DJ so she cut off the music, we just heard a lot of mayhem.”
An eyewitness from the scene said: “I was on the dance floor and I heard the gunshots, so I looked back and then all of a sudden everyone screamed: Get Down! It was a huge panic, everyone got up, I was trampled, I was kind of left on the floor until some guy came behind me and grabbed me and dragged me out.”
People flee from the bar by using chairs to break windows. Some of them took shelter inside the venue’s toilets.
Ventura County Sherriff Geoff Dean called it ‘horrific’ and also described that he saw ‘blood everywhere’ inside.
He further briefed that first responder reached three minutes after receiving the first emergency call from the venue.
Ventura Sheriff’s Sergeant Ron Helus died in hospital. He received shot several times while attempting to enter the active scene with a local highway patrolman.

The Sherriff expressed his condolences and said: “It saddens us all and tears at our emotions. He died a hero. He went in to save lives, to save other people.”
Police have also recovered a handgun inside the bar.
