President Nana Akufo-Addo said that the late former United Nations Secretary-General, Kofi Busumuru Annan, gave him advice when he took over the control of Ghana as President of Ghana.
Nana Akufo-Addo said he really valued the advice from the late diplomat, Kofi Busumuru Annan.
Akufo-Addo said that he gave him sensitive, deeply appreciated advice when he became President of the Republic, when he read his tribute at Kofi Annan’s burial service held at the Accra International Conference Centre on Thursday.
He said the last time he saw Mr. Annan was in March 2018, when the former international diplomat came to notify him, much to his embarrassment, that he could no longer continue to serve as Chancellor of Ghana’s premier university, the University of Ghana, Legon, since he had served the two terms permitted by the statutes of the university.
He expressed sorrow over his bad luck, even though, as life would have it, the university has found in Mary Chinery-Hesse, his old and trusted friend, a worthy successor.
President Akufo-Addo further added that Mr. Kofi Annan was inspired about his Ghana Beyond Aid agenda.
President Akufo-Addo added that Kofi Annan was a passionate believer in the ability of the Ghanaian and African to plan his or her own course on to the trail of progress and success. He found the vision of a Ghana Beyond Aid, certainly of an African Beyond Aid, very appealing. without a doubt, he excelled in the a variety of undertakings of his life, leaving in his shadow most pleasant memories. His was a life well-lived.
