President Akufo Addo has disclosed the source of funding for the free SHS policy, an issue which has been under the beam light for the Minority in Parliament.
At a news conference, the Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu has interrogated the lasting ability of the policy plus he set forth the demand from government for the source of funding. President Akufo-Addo has mentioned on Tuesday while addressing at the inauguration of
the free SHS policy in Accra that funds will be coming from the yield of the country’s natural resources, primarily mineral and oil revenues.
He added this would be beneficial to make use of this money for the betterment of the lives of people rather than few of people get to fill up their pockets. He stressed knowledge and power are not assets of elite class therefore this is essential to make sure that all school going age kids are enabled to get education. President Akufo Addo pointed out that government will be ready to accept any productive criticism to improve the programme.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh added as part of government’s Free SHS policy, capitation grant, feeding grant and other arrears will be duly honoured.
He claimed for the first time ever in the history of the country, students would not have to pay fees before they start school and this policy is the greatest substantial gift from the current government.
