Catherine Abelema Afeku is the Member of Parliament for Evalue-Gwira constituency in the Western region and it has been confirmed by the new elected President Nana Akufo-Addo as nominee for the Minister of Tourism, Arts & Culture.
According to the sources, Catherine takes over from Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, who has directed the ministry since 2013.
As Afeku was MP during 2009 to 2012 and returns to parliament after announcing as a winner in last month’s elections.
Although, she has also earlier served as Government Envoy for the Infrastructure and has always worried distinctive desire and also strong urge for public service.
It is fact that she’s also attributed with making key ideas while in parliament, and works on three committees in the house, The Communications Committee as the Deputy Ranking Member, the Business Committee and The Road and Transport Committee – according to the media.
The ministry was established in 1993. As the ministry functions to “promote and develop tourism and as well as improve the condition of the capital city, Accra.
Moreover, these functions are targeted at improving the socio-economic progress of the country through tourism-related activities and the advertising of environmental effect for the advantage of poor communities with tourist locations in the country”.
