CPP’s Presidential candidate, Ivor Greenstreet
Flag bearer of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Ivor Greenstreet has expressed disappointment in ruling NDC saying current government has put Ghanaians into captivity in their own country (Ghana) by signing different international trade agreements.
He said, one agreement signed by NDC which according to him is a typical example which has made people slaves is the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA).
The EPA is a an agreement signed by different countries to create a Free Trade Area (FTA) between the African and European Union (EU), Pacific (ACP) and Caribbean states.
EPA is a rejoinder to proceeding with feedback that the non-corresponding and discriminating trade agreements offered by the EU are contrary with the World Trade Organization (WTO) rules. The EPAs are major component of the Cotonou Agreement; the most recent contract of ACP-EU Development Cooperation.
Likewise, the National Democratic Congress led by President Mahama has signed to an interval EPA with the EU, in this manner conceding exporters obligation free access toward the West African nation’s market.
But CPP’s Presidential Candidate expressed that these type of agreements had made Ghanaians slaves.
Addressing CPP supporters on Thursday, 10 November, he stated, ‘Ruling party which is assuring that it is Kwame Nkrumah’s party has signed EPA to ensure that we are slaves in our own country.’
