Lawyer for 3 pro-government correspondents jailed for disapproval is confident that the President could agree his clients free “very soon”.
Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe said the media on Wednesday that, he expects the President will do “something positive instantly”
The lawyer is part of a set asking for presidential forgiveness for Godwin Ako Gunn, Maase Salifu and Alistair Nelson, who were jailed since last week on Wednesday after the Supreme Court handed down a 4-month punishment for criminal contempt.
But a week into their custody at the Nsawam Medium Security jail in the Eastern region, legal consultant Edudzi Tamakloe told the media that, he has information telling that the president may grant to their request very soon.
Hence, this follows the performance of a signed petition by the 3 contemnors to the president on Monday over their lawyers.
More than 48 hours earlier, when the Chief of Staff received the appeal, the lawyer stated that he has no suspicion that President Mahama will use his powers under Article 72 of the 1992 constitution and forgiveness the pro-government communicators.
Although, he said, “we would not have taken the advantage on behalf of our client if we have reason to doubt that option”.
According to him, “the petitioners are waiting for a good conclusion after the President is done asking the Council of State”.
