Despite having a short stay at the top of the Group D in the 2nd round of 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, The Ghanian coach Kwesi Appiah never lost his hope of regaining the top position once again.
With their 2-0 win against Lesotho in Maseru on this Sunday, the Black Stars are again at the summit of Group D one point ahead of Zambia.
In June last year the Black Stars were at the top of the group in the opening matches but later Zambia took the that place.
After watching Asamoah Gyan and John Boye’s performances against Lesotho the Black Stars coach Appiah said, ‘I always believed that we would be on top before we end the group but maybe it’s come so early.’
‘Zambia was leading and unfortunately for them, they drew yesterday and we had to take advantage of coming to the top.’
He said that the players should take the credit for what they did so far.
The Ghana coach who had always insisted that there is no margin for error at this place and their next game against Zambia this September is of vital importance, which is his next focus.
He Said: ‘I personally take a game as it comes and now that we are done with Lesotho, my concentration will be on our game against Zambia.’
‘But looking at the way we played, I believe if we continue and patch up a few mistakes, we will go very far.’
The Winners of the second round will go to the final stage where 10 sides will be paired for the final stage during October and November.
